English/English (Teacher Training)
Cultivation Objectives: This major focuses on the four dimensions of knowledge, cognitive skills, social skills and attitudes, and values, to cultivate innovative foreign language talents with global competence and adapt to the needs of national and local economic and cultural development.

Major Features: English/English (Teacher Training) is a national first-class major, a national five-star major (ranked 4.43% nationwide), a major with advantages in the 13th Five-Year Plan of Zhejiang Province, a major under the key construction of Zhejiang Province, a brand major of Ningbo City, and an "excellent" grade in the professional evaluation of the Ministry of Education. It has been awarded "Excellent" grade by the Ministry of Education. There are 50 full-time teachers, including 16 professors, 18 associate professors, 16 lecturers and 26 PhD holders. The teachers have a wide range of academic backgrounds and all have overseas study experience, which can effectively help students' growth and development. The programme has established joint postgraduate training programmes with prestigious universities in the UK, Queen's University, the University of Ottawa, the USA and Australia.
Careers and Further Studies: Graduates of the English/English (Teacher Training) major are mostly employed by foreign companies, central enterprises, government departments, primary and secondary schools, well-known education and training institutions and foreign trade companies. The overall rate of further studies (going abroad) is around 30%, with most graduates entering the University of Edinburgh, the University of Leeds, the University of New York, the University of Queensland, as well as universities at home and abroad, such as Peking University, Beiwai, Shangwai, Guangwai, Fudan and East China Normal University.
Japanese Language Major
Cultivation Objective: The major aims to cultivate professional composite talents with solid professional foundation, profound humanities background and strong comprehensive Japanese language ability, who can adapt to the needs of China's cultural exchanges with Japan, national and local economic and social development, various foreign-related industries, Japanese language education and academic research, and who have strong intercultural communication ability, thinking ability and innovation ability. At present, we have built a training programme combining small class teaching and elite education.
Main Courses: General Japanese, Advanced Japanese, Japanese Reading, Basic Japanese Writing, Advanced Japanese Audio-visual Speaking, Intermediate Interpretation, Intermediate Translation, Selected Japanese Literature, Business Japanese, Japanese Society and Culture, Academic Writing and Research Methods, etc.

Major Features: The major is a first-class major in Zhejiang Province, a key major in Ningbo University, a special major in Ningbo, and a four-star major in China (ranked 11.02% in the top of the country), with 17 full-time teachers, all of whom have overseas study experience. The major implements a training programme combining small class teaching and elite education, cultivating high-end talents who are well-rounded in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labour development and have solid Japanese language expertise and application skills. The programme has a high degree of internationalisation and cooperates with 12 national and public universities in Japan to conduct exchange programmes, course sharing, and selective study. Students will be trained as professionals with the ability to expand into Japanese literature, language, culture, economics and other related fields.
Employment and further studies: Students are mainly employed in foreign affairs departments, Japanese companies, trade organisations with Japan and related departments in Japan. In the past three years, the rate of advancement of Japanese majors to graduate schools has exceeded 20%, and 15% of the students have gone on to study for master's or doctoral degrees at prestigious Japanese universities.
German Major
The German major is a popular major at Ningbo University, founded in 2007, and is a relatively young undergraduate major.The aim of the programme is to train international and diversified German language professionals with a broad international outlook, high humanities, good overall quality, solid basic German language skills, strong professional ability, knowledge of German language and literature, national conditions and culture, the ability to use the language, intercultural communication skills, thinking and innovation, and the ability to adapt to the needs of China's foreign exchange, national and local economic and social development, language services in various German-related industries, and to engage in German language education and academic research.
Main courses: Basic German, Intermediate German, German Writing, Advanced German, German Speaking, German Audiovisual, German Reading, German Interpreting, History of German Literature, Introduction to German Linguistics, Economic German, Scientific and Technical German, Overview of German-speaking Countries, Culture of German-speaking Countries, etc.

Special features of the programme: Strong teaching staff, with 10 full-time teachers, including one professor and two associate professors, and one foreign teacher employed on a permanent basis. In 2018 and 2019, the major has achieved a 100% pass rate in the German IV examinations of national universities, with an excellent rate of 59.1% and 53.8% respectively, ranking top among similar institutions in China. 2020, students who participated in the international cooperation programme were awarded the EU Erasmus Scholarship for their excellent performance.
Employment and further studies: The graduates are mainly employed in German-funded enterprises, trade organizations with Germany, primary and secondary schools, well-known education and training institutions and foreign trade companies. Some graduates have been admitted to Peking University and Tongji University to study for a master's degree. The programme insists on openness, and has set up study visits or degree programmes with many foreign universities, such as the Baden-Württemberg University of Applied Sciences, the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, the West Coast University of Applied Sciences, the University of Szczecin and the German University of Applied Sciences for Medium-sized Enterprises.
