2010年4月26日下午,我校研究生学术创新论坛第38讲在李达三外语楼报告厅举行。应我院的邀请,加拿大McGill大学Lydia White教授带来了题为《The Definiteness Effect in L2 Acquisition》的精彩讲座。讲座由我院副院长于善志教授主持。
讲座中,Lydia White教授首先介绍了L2英语中冠词的三种误用以及一些学者对此的解释,然后引出The Definite Effect:In existentials with there-insertion, indefinite articles and other weak determiners may appear; definites may not (Milsark 1977),继而列出四组实验(受试均为成年人,母语分别为土耳其语、俄语、汉语。这三种语言中除土耳其语有不定冠词外,其余均没有冠词。实验从设计上排除了L1迁移的影响)。实验结果支持The Definite Effect。最后得出结论:L2 learners can acquire subtle linguistic properties pertaining to the L2. Their linguistic representations are native-like, at least for some linguistic phenomena。到场的教师与研究生们对本次讲座中的许多方面产生浓厚兴趣,纷纷在讲座后进行了提问,更为能在校分享到这位当前第二语言习得国际领域数一数二的权威人士的研究感到无比荣幸。

She has a BA/MA in Moral Sciences and Psychology from Cambridge University (1969), and a PhD in Linguistics from McGill (1980). Lydia White is Co-Editor of the book series Language Acquisition and Language Disorders (published by John Benjamins) and she is on the Editorial/Advisory Boards of Applied Psycholinguistics, Language Acquisition, Second Language Research, Studies in Second Language Acquisition, and the Japanese Second Language Association. She has published many articles and monographs that are most frequently quoted in SLA like “Second language acquisition and Universal Grammar”, “Prosodic structure and the representation of L2 functional morphology” ,"Missing inflection in L2 acquisition,Missing surface inflection or impairment in second language acquisition?”.
